Give your living space an instant tropical vibe with these decorative summer pillows
Summer is here! Although it’s not really my favorite season of the year because of the intense heat it brings, summer draws in a bright and sunny vibe that I like to bring into my home. Redecorating maybe an option but since my budget is limited, what I do to add that tropical vibe into our living room is by adding decorative summer pillows 🙂 Here are some of my top picks for inspiration.
1. AZTEC PRINTS
I love the black and white Aztec print on this decorative summer pillow. Since it’s black and white, it can easily blend in with solid colored couches. The pink, yellow and aqua tassels are also a fun way to add that pop of color on the pillow.
2. SUMMER FRUITS ON CANVAS
Summer fruits like pineapples and watermelons give off a cool and refreshing vibe. And with a very hot summer like here in the Philippines, adding this element to your home makes it look cooler. I’m thinking of making one but I’m worried handpainting on fabric would be a bit challenging. Maybe I just need to practice.
3. PALM LEAVES FOLIAGE
Bronze and palm leaves. This combination makes summer sound very luxurious, well for me that is. What I really like about this combination is the fact that it looks very simple yet elegant and it gives your living room a tropical resort feel which is perfect for summer.
4. BEADED STARFISH AND BEACH PRINTS
I love the details on this decorative summer pillow. Beads and starfish definitely spell s-u-m-m-e-r for me. It may be difficult to DIY this but this is a wonderful idea to paint big bold beach prints on a blank pillowcase.
5. NAUTICAL STRIPES
Nautical themed pillows are also a fun way to add a summer vibe into your living room. I love the muted teal stripes on this pillowcase because it’s easy on the eyes. The anchor is also a wonderful accent that adds character to this piece.
And since I like to DIY, I decided to make a pillowcase myself.
Combining the inspiration that I got from the internet, I made a nautical-themed pillowcase with tassel accents. I used canvas cloth to make it more sturdy and it also provided a nice surface for me to paint my navy blue and orange stripes. I also made a macrame wall (or door hanging) to add a tropical vibe to our living room.
